Why this exists
Miliastra collaboration is complicated
You can either pass your whole stage around, or split it up using Shared Creation Mode. Either way, you need to carefully communicate to make sure you're not overwriting eachother's progress, and you have to share and import what you made with your team by hand.
Automated sharing reduces friction
miliastra/collab keeps track of slice reservations and lets you share individual slices with a changelog. Teammates download those updates automatically and choose when to apply them. As an added bonus, you automatically get version history.
Using the app
The app runs alongside your editor. It autodetects when you save your work in Miliastra.
-
Reserve your slices
Start working on a slice in the game and save! You will automatically reserve your slice, if available.
(you can also click Start work on the slices you want to edit)
-
Edit and save
Work in Miliastra as usual, then save the stage. The app detects changes to your saved slices.
-
Share your update
Review the changed slices, write down what changed, and click Share update.
-
Receive teammates’ changes
Updates download automatically! Just unload your stage and click apply!
Setting up a project
Choose OneDrive or use a desktop app for Dropbox / Google Drive
and pick a shared folder.
Keep the team folder separate from your Miliastra
game-save folder!
-
Split and save your stage
Create a new shared-creation mode project, or convert your existing stage. After opening the stage, save it once so the app can discover it.
-
Create the project in the app
Enter your name and a project name, choose sharing method, and select your stage.
-
Invite your team
Send your team an invitation, which shares the project and encryption key.
-
Reserve a slice and start creating
Reserve the slices you want to work on, and start creating in Miliastra!
Can’t find your stage? Make sure to save your stage in-game after splitting.
-
Open your invitation
Make sure you have the app running, then open your teammate’s invitation link and click the big button.
-
Connect to the team
Enter your display name and the encryption key provided by your teammate. Connect OneDrive or select the shared folder when prompted.
-
Get the starting stage
Follow the app’s import instructions!
-
Reserve a slice and start creating
Reserve the slices you want to work on, and start creating in Miliastra!
Project membership and access to the storage folder are both required. Ask the project owner if you can join but can’t access the files.
Update history
Keep a record of what your team shared.
- See who changed which slices, and read their changelog.
- Browse updates across the project or filter by slice.
- Restore earlier versions when you need to go back.
Questions
Where are our stage files stored?
In your team’s OneDrive or shared folder. A shared folder can also be a folder synced by a service such as Dropbox or Google Drive.
Can Peet steal my stage?
Absolutely not! Your stage files are only uploaded to your storage platform! The app does use a small service to coordinate membership, reservations, and publication decisions, but this data is encrypted on your machine and decrypted on your team's machines, so Peet can't read a single thing!
Can two people edit the same slice?
The app warns about another creator’s reservation, but it cannot stop Miliastra from editing the slice. If both creators make changes, use the conflict controls to decide which version to keep. Changes within one slice are not automatically merged.
Do I need to install anything?
The app is a portable Windows executable. Download it and run it from a folder you can write to. Settings and saved connections are kept in your Windows profile.
How do I update the app?
Open App settings > Application updates to check for a newer release. You can also download the latest executable from GitHub, quit the running app from its tray icon, and replace your copy.
